Blue Duck Lodge is located in the centre of Ruapehu District's natural playground with a wide range of invigorating outdoor activities on offer. Some just minutes from the lodge!

There are many tracks suitable for walking, hiking, mountain biking and horse trekking through the surrounding Whanganui National Park. This extraordinary natural setting offers visitors the chance to observe many species of flora, fauna and bird life found in the native bush and along the banks of both the Whanganui and Retaruke Rivers. Kayaking, canoeing and jet boat tours can be arranged with pick up from the lodge.

On the Retaruke there are plenty of excellent trout fishing spots to explore. You will not have much competition, and what's more you will be actively helping the Blue Duck by controlling the population of fish who eat the same food as the Whio.

The lodge has two mountain bikes available, free of charge for our guests. They have proved to be an ideal way of getting some pre-drinks exercise. Full day trips, including lots of downhill backcountry, can easily be organised.
