owned farmland, 1100 of tracked native bush,
the Whanganui National Park with famous trails such as The Bridge to Nowhere and the Matemateonga track means there is no shortage of places to hike!
There are walks suitable for all ages and abilities with varying scenery, track distance and difficulty from 4 day hikes to an hour or two's stroll near the lodges.
The Bridge to Nowhere walk into the Maungaparua
Landing and the Matemateonga track both have entry points in
the Whanganui National Par and are 2-4 day walks each way. From
the lodge these tracks can be easily accessed and enjoyed for a shorter
duration or in their entirety.
There is access to the
Moronui stream, which makes a great place to sunbath or spot eels.
For
more walking tracks and private access fishing spots, turn right out of
the driveway and 5 km along you will see the Retaruke
Station sign on your right hand side. Over the bridge you will find great fishing and picnic spots on the river
as well as access to native bush walks and horse riding tracks.
