Location

From the North: One kilometre South from the Owhango Hotel, a large green road sign points to Kaitieke, turn right, over the railroad tracks, onto Oio Rd. Blue Duck Lodge is 35 km down Oio Rd. Follow signs for Whakahoro. 15 kilometres on you will pass a Memorial Monument. Stay on Oio Road and follow signs for Lower Retaruke. The road turns to gravel for the last 11 km. You'll pass the Retaruke Hall on your left. You are almost there when passing the first coloured bridge, which is Blue. 500 meters past here, up around a corner,  Blue Duck Lodge is on your right and Pinecones is on your left hand side. Welcome. Now Relax.......................Whio Lodge is a further 7 kms down and at the end of the road.  Go over a Green bridge, then once you go over a Red bridge you are almost there!  On your left there is a Red Woolshed, then a Red house and the next driveway is the Whio. It is also Red!  Again go in and make yourselves at home.  The next building on the left is the new Blue Duck Central, meeting point, cafe, information centre......you name it, it does it!  So, call in and check it out!

From the South: Travel towards Owhango and turn left onto Oio Road and follow directions as above.
Or, for a slightly faster road, which is very scenic but has more gravel, take the Kaitieke Road from Raurimu. At the bottom of the Raurimu Spiral, turn left and follow the road to the very end. It turns to gravel after about 300 meters. After climbing to the top of the first hill, stop to admire this view of the valley. Follow this road for about 20 kilometres. You will pass the Katieke School once back on the paved road. At the T Junction turn left, head for Whakahoro. Not far past here you will pass the Memorial Monument, stay on the road and follow signs for Lower Retaruke. Once you hit the gravel road, it is a further 11kms from there. You are almost there when passing the first coloured bridge, which is Blue. 500 meters past here, up around a corner,  Blue Duck Lodge is on your right and Pinecones Lodge is on your left hand side. Welcome and now......Relax.
